Just as writers read differently, so should a comedian watch comedy differently, with an eye towards breaking down the jokes in a way that allows us to apply those same tactics towards our own act.
In the How Comedians Watch Comedy workshop, you will learn how to watch comedy like a pro, including how to…
- Break down a joke you just watched into its basic comedic elements
- Identify the Comedy Lens and misdirection that comedian employed
- Identify the comedic heightening devices used to get the laugh
- Use that joke as a template to write an original joke for yourself
We’ll also use actual pro comedians YouTube bits to demonstrate how to “watch comedy” by identifying all those aspects in each piece.
Whether you’re a seasoned comic or a casual fan, you’ll gain a greater appreciation for good comedy writing by the end of this session!
